North Dakota

VOTE EARLY

Your county sets the days. Look yours up: vip.sos.nd.gov/Precincts.aspx?eid=348

The Secretary of State's 2026 Election Officials' Manual says a county may create an early voting precinct, that early voting must be authorized during the fifteen days before the election, and that the county auditor designates the business days and times it is open. Not every county offers it. Check the state's list of early voting counties and sites.

North Dakota does not require voter registration, but you do need to have a valid form of identification that can be used for voting.

My day

What to bring

  • North Dakota Driver's License
  • North Dakota Non-Driver's License
  • Tribal ID or Tribal Letter
  • Long-Term Care Certificate

Regular and Real ID versions from NDDOT are accepted; digital IDs are not. A non-driver ID is free for voting from NDDOT. Out-of-state IDs are not accepted.

No ID? Without a valid ID, or with one that shows an old address, you can vote a set-aside ballot during early voting or on Election Day. Within 13 days after the election, before the County Canvassing Board meets, present or update your driver's license, non-driver ID, Tribal ID or documentation, or Long Term Care Certificate to the county auditor, in person or electronically, and your ballot will be counted.

If the line is long

All voters standing in line to vote at the time the polls close must be allowed to vote.

If they turn you away, ask for a provisional ballot.
